Welcome to Cinematherapy Central

25 01 2010

I’d like to introduce myself.I’m Teresa Trower, “The Stress Coach”, and author of this blog. I am also a Licensed Mental Health Counselor.

I believe that movies provide both an escape and a mini-therapy session. Through the willing suspension of disbelief, we are propelled into an alternate world of circumstances, events, adventures, joys, and sorrows.  These vicarious experiences are both educational and transformational. Through this blog, I hope to offer cinema selections which offer insights into both dysfunctional and uplifting approaches to life.

Each movie suggestion will include a series of questions to assist you in discovering your feelings about the film and, in turn, sharing your opinions and input with other readers and cinema-goers. Some of the films will be current…others not so current. I encourage your comments!

I think this is a GREAT idea. I’ve often used movies therapeutically.
I have a list of movies to help trauma survivors, and suggestions about movies to avoid as well.

I’d just add that I think SOME movies can be used this way. There are a lot that can be very counterproductive, of course.

Hi Theresa

I agree that this is a wonderful idea. I think movies today are on an equal therapeutic level with books. I am looking forward to participating in the discussion.
